FAQs

I'm interested in enrolling (or enrolling my child) for classes. What do I need to do?

First of all, we'd like to welcome you! You can call us at (650) 348-2444 or email us ahead of time to let us know the class you're interested in and when you're thinking of stopping by. You don't have to do this, but it will ensure that we are expecting you and can greet you and explain everything. When you're ready, come by our studio at 1415 B El Camino Real (Right off of Shoreline Blvd), in Mountain View. You can observe a class before signing up. Or if you prefer, you can jump right in with a free trial class to see if you like it. Once you've decided you want to join us, you can make a payment for your first month based on the number of classes per week you'll be taking and begin!

What should I wear to a class?

For your first class, the easiest thing is just to wear comfortable, fitted clothing that allows for a full range of movement and shows the lines of the body. For your first class you may be barefoot or wear socks.

In general, we do have a dress code for classes: Students should wear comfortable and fitted clothing to rehearsals, intended for dance. Girls should wear leotards or t-shirts and dance skirts or jazz pants. Boys should wear dance pants and t-shirts. Dance class attire should be black or black and white. The attire for girls from the Tots, Tiny Performers, and Show-Stoppers classes should be pink. Long hair should be pulled back into a bun or pony-tail.The type of dance shoe to be worn by students depends on the class and the choreography and will be explained to each class by the instructors.

I have more than one child that I would like to enroll for classes. Do you offer a family discount?

Yes, we do offer a family discount. The discount applies whether you enroll multiple students from the same family all at once, or whether you enroll a second, third, etc. child years later. You can see pricing for family discounts on our classes page.

Do I need to have previous dance experience to join a class?

Previous dance experience is not required for most of our dance classes. There are however select classes — such as our Showtime Ballroom class, Teens Group 2 class, and Young Adults Class — where previous experience is recommended and new students are asked to audition prior to joining. For all other classes, however, new dancers are always welcome!

And if at any point you feel like you could use some extra time or help from the instructors to improve on your dance abilities or review the choreography at your own pace, you are always welcome to take a private class.

Can I (or my child) enroll after the start of a season?

Yes, you can enroll anytime in the year and you are always welcome. However, we recommend enrolling as early in the season as you can so you don't miss out on exciting classes, workshops and performances. Starting as early as possible in the season also helps students to grasp the new movements and choreography with greater ease. Though if you enroll mid-season, we will help to catch you up.

If I or my child dance at Firebird Dance Studio and participate in a Firebird Dance Theatre performance, do I need to purchase costumes?

No, you will not need to purchase costumes. However, you will need to purchase your own dance shoes for classes and performances. And we do have a costume policy, for all of our performing dancers: Firebird Dance Theatre provides its students with the costumes for concerts and shows. They are uniqe and range from $50-$500 per costume. Therefore, a $50 yearly costume rental fee for the use of all studio costumes is due with your first payment of the season. If costumes are lost or damaged while in the student’s possession, then the student is responsible for paying for that costume.

Please remember that our costumes are custom sewn, one-of-a-kind pieces. We ask our students to please take good care of costumes while they are in your possession. After performances, promptly hang and air out your costumes. Keep them clean and away from food. If your costumes need cleaning, please ask the instructors for washing or drycleaning instructions for each garment. Store them in clean, cool, dry places, so that we can use the beautiful costumes for years to come. If you do not lose or damage costumes, you will never have to pay for them.

But I still have more questions!

More questions? No worries. Please don't hesitate to contact us and we'd be happy to personally explain to you anything you may want to know. And of course, you can always come by our studio before or during a class to see for yourself what we're all about.
